Michael Tipper in his research presented in his website www.happychild.org.uk shows this brain trivia.
Did you know that over 40 years ago it was estimated that we only used 50 per cent of the brain’s potential?
Did you know that over 30 years ago it was estimated that we used 40 per cent of our brain’s potential?
20 years ago it was thought that we used between 20 and 30 per cent of our mind’s capabilities.
Even just over 10 years ago we still thought that we used between 5 and 20 per cent of the brain’s potential.
But now, in the 1990s, we know that we are consciously using less than one per cent of our brain’s capabilities.
With this realization we all know the utilization of our brain potential is nothing but a tip of the iceberg. Large portion of our brains are underutilized. Many people nowadays were trapped by the concept of the so called “information overload”. But upon realizing our brain potentials being underutilized, we might better call this “information underload”.
The Unbeatable Mind
There was once article featured on Reader’s Digest on April 1955 regarding the unbeatable chess grandmaster and his challenger. Jose Raul Capablanca was considered unbeatable on his time because he so superior in the game of chess. And there comes a time that there was a man in the name of Alexander Alekhine who had the nerve to challenge this man. The first thing he did was to retire to the country. He tried to quit smoking and drinking and made a great deal of exercise. He did that for three months. The startling part of this is that Alexander Alekhine practiced and played chess in his imagination! Guess what? Alexander Alekhine was able to topple down the formerly unbeatable Jose Raul Capablanca. Why is this so? Simply, it’s because half of the battle is won in the mind.
Half of the Battle is Won in the Mind
The return of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao to the ring against Juan Manuel Marquez is a sad scenario. Skill wise, Pacquiao can get even with Marquez. Exchange of punches tells us that both of them are superior boxers. But what made Marquez a winner of that fight and brought him to the top? I used to watch HBO 24/7 whenever a certain big fight will happen. Surprisingly, I watched Juan Manuel Marquez in his strenuous nerve bursting practice. I am convinced to the core of my being that it is not Marquez skills, preparation or even his urine therapy habit that brought Pacquiao to the canvass but Marquez visualization of the fight. Marquez once said in the interview of the HBO, “I practice visualization”. The straight punch of Marquez to Pacquiao did not happen for the first time in the ring. That probably happened several times in Marquez mind long time ago. Again, half of the battle is won in the mind! As Bruce Lee once said, “Defeat is just the state of the mind”.
Basketball in the Mind
Let’s take a closer look at this experiment. There are three groups of basketball team who were asked to practice basketball free-throw for three different conditions to see the significant improvement that will happen in their performance. The First Group was asked to refrain from practicing for thirty days. The Second Group were asked to practice free throws for 1-hour a day. And finally, the Third Group was asked to practice the same length of time, but only in their imagination. After the series practices were done, an astounding result happened. Of course, the First Group did not have significant improvement. The Second Group had a 24% gain in their improvement and surprisingly the Third Group who practiced basketball free-throw in their minds got 23% gain in their improvement. Almost close to those who practice physically.
Wonderful Genie in a Bottle
Don’t you know that we really need to be careful to every word we are uttering about ourselves? Why? Words have creative power and words eventually will become your thoughts? Thoughts conceived in our minds could send a command to our brain what to execute. Yes! Your mind is an obedient servant. In fact, our subconscious mind is like genie in a bottle waiting day in day out for our orders. It never sleeps. It can never be idle. Subconscious mind works 24/7. One of the prominent business coaches named Robert Kiyosaki once said in his book entitled Rich Dad, Poor Dad, “If you say I can’t do it, your brain stops working but when you say I can do it, your starts working.”
Can I simply say what a relief to uncover someone who really understands what they are discussing on the internet. You certainly know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people ought to look at this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe you arent more popular since you certainly have the gift.
